Y2N celebrates IDAHO

Today the members of the Youth 2gether Network joined our fellow comrades all around the world to celeberate and mark yet another day set to kick against homophobia and all forms of discremination based on gender or sexual Orientation.

With the gathering of 10 members of the Y2N in our Edo State branch and other few members from the eastern part of Nigeria we were able to organise a little event to mark the International Day Againt Homophobia (IDAHO).

We used it as an opportunity to call on governmental institution, civil society and the general public to stop the discrimination against sexual minorities, because sexual and reproductive rights and fundamental rights of all human, regardless of cultural background.

We also called on the federal government of Nigerian to re-consider its commitment to protecting ALL Nigerians from all forms of discrimination and ensure absolute democracy, transparency and accountability. The Nigerian government itself had committed to signing without reservation onto several international human rights treaties such as the International covenant on Civil and Political Rights as well as the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights to mention a few . Though Nigeria has ratified some of these treaties, it is yet to domesticate others.

We also used it as a medium to call on the Nigerian government to domesticate the Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW)”.

The event was latter ended with a short prayer and a light refreshement to conclude the whole activity for the day.
